It is with great sadness that we share the news of the death of the founding trustee and CEO of The Icarus Charity, Major David Bellamy.
David was a truly remarkable man, an outstanding soldier and a great friend to many.
Following 7 years in the armed forces, spent largely on operations in Africa and the Gulf, and a lengthy period as a professional deep sea diver working around the world, David developed a successful business career, much of it in Hong Kong and India. He returned to the UK, setting up the Icarus Charity in 2017 to provide the best care possible to veterans, serving soldiers and their families.
As a highly trained psychotherapist, cognitive behaviour therapist, and hypnotherapist, David dedicated recent years of his life to helping veterans conquer serious mental health issues. There are a great many people who have been able to rebuild their lives as a direct result of the help he has given.
David died at home in Scotland on December 15. Our thoughts at this difficult time are with his wife, Mishi, and family. All of us at Icarus shall miss David enormously, but we are determined that his work will continue, and we will help yet more people live full and happy lives.
